Waiting for love but not forever: Modeling the evolution of waiting time to selfing in hermaphrodites

چکیده

Although mixed mating systems involving both selfing and outcrossing are fairly common in hermaphrodites, the mechanisms maintaining still unknown many cases. In some species, individuals that have not yet found a partner delay self-fertilization for time. This “waiting time” to (WT) can exhibit heritable variation between is subject two opposing selection pressures: waiting longer increases density-dependent probability encounter mate within time thereby chance avoid inbreeding depression (ID) offspring, but also risk of dying before reproduction. It has long been hypothesized fluctuations population density thus availability lead stable intermediate WTs, our knowledge there so far no quantitative models take into account joint evolutionary dynamics ID. We use an individual-based model mathematical approximation explore how delayed evolves response fluctuations. find at high density, when meet often, WT evolution dominated by genetic drift; densities, strong ID causes increase; low purged approaches zero. Positive feedback loops drive system either complete or outcrossing. Fluctuating slow down convergence these alternative states. However, mating, sense polymorphism WT, times, was never observed. Thus, additional factors need be explored explain persistence selfing.

the search for the self in becketts theatre: waiting for godot and endgame

this thesis is based upon the works of samuel beckett. one of the greatest writers of contemporary literature. here, i have tried to focus on one of the main themes in becketts works: the search for the real "me" or the real self, which is not only a problem to be solved for beckett man but also for each of us. i have tried to show becketts techniques in approaching this unattainable goal, base...

Serotonin: Waiting but Not Rewarding

A new study in mice demonstrates that stimulating dorsal raphe serotonin boosts patient waiting but stimulation itself is not rewarding. Dorsal raphe serotonin's unique contribution provides a neural locus for impulsivity and related failures of patience.

Survey on waiting time and visit time in plan of health sector evolution in Iran: A case study in Tabriz

Background and aims: Visit quality is a crucial component of patient-physician interaction that its inadequacy can negatively influence the diagnosis and treatment efficiency. The waiting time and visit length are important determinants of quality in the outpatient care setting. Thus, the aim of this study was to determine waiting time and visit length and to compare them befor...

Waiting for a Retweet: Modeling Waiting Times in Information Propagation

Social media are increasingly used to disseminate emergency warnings, alerts, and other hazard-related information. In this context, the timing of information propagation is of immediate interest. Time-sensitive information must reach members of the general public before the pertinence of the information expires. In this research we build a preliminary model for the time between information dis...
